02/09/2019 Reflection

What was your response to the brief?

What I find interesting is that each keyword is randomly selected, so it can be interesting or difficult. I think this project pays more attention to my own ideas, and any idea is possible, which can better exercise my divergent thinking ability.

You were asked to come up with idea quickly? How did this feel?

I think at this early stage, it was a little difficult for me to come up with a lot of ideas in a very short time. But I believe I can master this skill quickly through study

How did you select which idea to develop?

First of all, I think the idea is novel and interesting. Then I still focus on choosing ideas to develop my interests.

When you worked in a group did you peers understand you?

They understand what I think and what I'm talking about. But my English is not very good, so I speak slowly. And my peers gave me nice advice, so that I can improve my ideas.

Did you peers give you meaningful feed back?

My team members thought My idea was interesting, but there is a single point that needs to be more specific

how do you hope to explain your final idea visually?

I wish I could express my ideas intuitively, be more diverse and specific, and add some simple words.

what idea is important to show?

I think it's important to show innovative and interesting ideas. If I could come up with a unique idea from different angles, my work would be innovative and interesting

What did you lean today? How are you settling in?

Today, I learned how to produce ideas. Drawing ideas in a draft way is very important. No matter what way you use it, you can just express it clearly. And you can produce ideas whenever and wherever you want.

Today is the first day of class. I feel a little overwhelmed, but I will adapt to this process quickly.

03/09/2019 Reflection

what was the response to your brief

Today, I sketched the design, sketched the ideas, and then selected some to develop.

what was successful /worked

I chose the idea of the brain. The brain itself is one of the structures that make up the human body. It also has its own unique neural structure. I enlarged certain parts of the brain and chose to make them out of leather. I think the success of this idea is that it's a good combination of three key words

what would you change

I improved the part that connects the brain to the tissue and chose to use springs, which also have their own unique structure, to fit the keywords better

How could you develop your idea future?

I might make it into a brooch, a headdress or a bracelet

how can you visualization explain itself ? (without spoken words)

It is a special structure with some parts that are not amplified for a jewelry design, and the main material is leather

05/09/2019 IDEAS FACTORY- feedback form

Summary of your proposal

What is it? Where does it belong? Who USES it? What is it made of? What process does it involve? What influenced the idea/design?

It's a brooch, mostly made of leather. I made a model, but it wasn't what I wanted to show. Later, I talked with my friends and found a more interesting idea, that is, it can be large and small combined, the effect will be more beautiful.

Team feedback

My team members are always praised for their sense of responsibility. However, they are always praised for their sense of responsibility.

Advice and action plan

The design is finished, but it still takes time to make a perfect model. I need to speed up and make better models.

09/09/2019 Reflection

How did you feel working with so many consraintsgiven ogjects /limited time and materiacs)

I think it is interesting for me to draw ideas according to the specified fruit in a limited time. Although it is not comfortable at first and I cannot draw too many ideas in a certain period of time, many ideas will be generated when I slowly get into the state. Drawing in restricted conditions can exercise my brain and hands-on skills. Making a model when materials are limited is an interesting experience, which makes us think of more solutions to fit the object.

DiD this HELP You to generate ideas?WHY?

This method helps me generate ideas and draw them in a short time in the future. In this way, I can always draw ideas in the sketchbook, so that I can quickly draw ideas and improve efficiency.

Was pic what you expected?

I think the product design is very interesting, considering the practicality of the product, thinking about the user experience, how to make it beautiful and interesting. I am interested in making models by hand. I like the contact with materials and the process of making models.

Which part did you enjoy most?(lectnre/primary research/ideation/making)

What I like most is the process of making models. I think it's interesting that the material that I have to offer is so limited that it allows me to think more. I enjoy the process from 2d to 3d, from touching materials to completing a model, and feel a sense of accomplishment.

10/09/2019 REFLECTION PROMPTS FOR BUILD IT

What was your response to the project brief?

I think the structure picture on this brief is very interesting. The similar shape can be developed and different structures can be changed. Using bamboo from two-dimensional plane to three-dimensional structure, analyzing the same model from different angles is different.

What is your understanding of the relationship between shape and structure?

I think the shape is planar, the structure has perspective, three-dimensional, three-dimensional, but the structure will contain shape. The relationship between shape and structure is that we can see the shape from the perspective of the internal situation of the structure. The structure of each part is a shape.

Which shape is the strongest?

Triangle.

Which shape is the most visually interesting?

I think it's circular, because the circle looks round from every angle, but if there's a light hitting the circle, the light and shade of the circle from every angle are different, and it's interesting. Moreover, the distance from the center of the sphere to any point of the boundary is equal and more stable than any shape.

You were asked to work in a team-How did that make you feel?

Through group cooperation, I  can absorb the ideas of different members, come up with a better solution through discussion, and draw different ideas and suggestions from the same perspective and the same problem. This process is interesting.

How did the decision making process evolve in your goop?

First, everyone brainstorms all their ideas, the more the better, and then discusses the pros and cons of each idea and chooses the best one. For example, the structure is the most stable, is the use of the least material, the shape is beautiful, no meaningless structure appears. We will consider these factors to decide who is the most appropriate person to think.

Did you agree

I agree with this approach. Through group discussion, we can give full play to the collective strength to get a better, more perfect and comprehensive idea.

what feedback did you got from your peers on your ideas/

proposals?

My team members feel that my ideas are feasible and the structure can be used. They feel very good, but I personally feel that my ideas are limited, there is no more innovation, new ideas appear.

what was successful about your structure

The success of my structure lies in the fact that first of all, it is very stable, there is no repetitive structure, the structure is not single, the shape of each side is different, and there will be innovation. Moreover, it meets the requirements of the tutor for portability, complex structure, simple and beautiful looking.

what would change ?add or remove

I will change the structure of the erection and take away the extra bamboo. Improve structural stability, so that the whole structure looks clearer.

consider use site context

Did you enjoy working in a team making the structure

I enjoy working in teams and doing models. Because teamwork can absorb useful ideas from members to improve their own ideas, will hear the same thing from all angles of understanding, broaden their horizons. Modeling is also interesting. When a two-dimensional shape is made of materials into a three-dimensional structure, there will be a sense of achievement. And in the process of making the model, we should think about how to use this material more appropriately, and how to use better connection under limited conditions. These are all problems encountered in the process of making the model. I will enjoy the process of thinking and using hands, and actually doing the model.

12/09/2019 Reflection

Today, we finally did the jewelry project. The teacher gave us three key words, from which we developed a finished product. First, we diverge our thinking on each key word, and then we drew 10 corresponding design drawings for each key word. Then our group discussed a best design and finished making it. In today's one-day study, I learned more ways of divergent thinking, the teacher took us together, let me see more ideas and possibilities. The final product is a brooch, which I like very much. The materials are cardboard, cardboard and iron wire. In the case of limited materials, I think these three are closest to my design. Today is a very useful and interesting day

The building has been transformed by architects Stanton Williams. While the Western Transit Shed has been converted into unique office space with shops and restaurants at street level.

How did you find the drawing and research tasks today?

Today's task is equivalent to sketching outside, painting scenery, all kinds of things about light, reflections, shadows and so on. You will find a lot of details that you don't usually notice. This process is interesting, and you've also trained your sketching skills.

Did you manage to complete them?

I took ten pictures and ten pictures. The reason why I didn't take five videos was that the weather was bad and there was no sun, so I couldn't make high quality videos. But I also drew sketches and sketches about light.

Title:

Tom Dixon: Dixonary

Writer:

Tom dixon

Date of publication:

30/09/2013

What type of source is it? (e.g. Book, journal, thesis, internet source, fiction, artwork)

A comprehensive book about one of Britain's most famous and respected product designers

Is the information current enough?

The information is timely and new

Is the content fact or opinion?

The content is composed of his own works and facts, using his own words and rich illustrations to show the inspiration behind every piece of work he has created in nearly 30 years of design

Is it accurate?

To be accurate

Why?

In Dixon's words, "a simple picture book with a short 'story' -- the story is presented in an orderly, small way, roughly in chronological order, scanning the themes and techniques I've been interested in over the last 30 years, as well as what I've created."

What are the potential biases?

Someone collated Evernote and saw Tom Dixon, who was reading Tom dixxon's semi-autobiography two years ago, talking about how he has grown into a designer. "Tom Dixon thinks of himself as the rebel of the '80s," he wrote in the notes. "his stuff was rough, rusted, and reinvented and was an attempt to cross the line, completely different from the mainstream... He worried that he would have nothing to rebel against, because in the context of contemporary design, all dissent would be celebrated, and design museums/magazines would be drawn to radicalism that would not have time to grow into an anti-establishment system.

Does the author use quotations references or other data?

Radical pop culture, utopian hippie spirit, punk spirit and the living age, bar culture, punk music

Is the Author credible?

I believe that

Why?

In his own words, and interspersed with hundreds of contrasting illustrations, the self-taught designer illustrates the often surprising ideas behind his work. Dickson shifts the concept of fullness from an overfed sow in a painting to a stuffed couch; Or the huge concrete fortifications along the coast of Japan that became the distinctive shape of his famous stacked jack lights.

Which research method(s) has the author used to develop the project?

With its classic semi-bound cloth, alternating coated paper and exquisite uncoated stock, Tom Dixon quickly dispelled the first impression that it was an overproduced catalogue. The self-taught Mr. Dixon began making what could only be described as punk-style chairs in the early 1980s, welded and wired together with scrap metal, and went on to become one of Britain's smartest furniture designers

Can you verify the information from another credible source?

You can check out information from various web searches and reviews of the book by several famous designers

What is the authors relationship to the topic?

producers

Is it or Primary Secondary Research?

Primary Research

Do you have any comments about the historical, Geographical, Political, Social, Cultural contexts?

Tom Dixon's lighthearted second book features color illustrations and photographs of his many works, as well as anecdotes and meditations printed on parchment. The 614-page hardcover (violet's version) contains more than 30 years of work by the British designer, chronicled in his career from the late 1970s. At the time, he was performing in a rock band, learning to weld by day and working on motorcycles by day. As the book enters the new millennium and his brand launches, pictures of boa recliner and pointy chandelier. In these copper wastebaskets and glass pendants, you'll find him thinking about everything from milking stools to industrial reconstruction. Dix is not a directory; This is a diary.

Why is it of particular importance to your work?

It expanded my thinking and gave me a new definition of design

18/09/2019 podcast

Do you feel your experience was the same?

Yes. At the beginning of the first week, I felt that everything was strange, unfamiliar, different language environment, different teaching methods and teaching methods, all came to foreign countries are different. So it takes a while to get used to it.

What was helpful?

Having a hobby, making friends with others are important. And it is a nice way to talk with foreigners so that I can improve my language faster than just talk with person in the same country. Don’t afraid to be wrong, no one will laugh at you, just be brave to share your feeling and any interesting ideas in order to adapt this environment.

What could be helpful to make the first week easier?

Making friends. Don’t be shy.Talking to people from the whole world in order to improve English. Be brave to ask question and answer.Don't be depressed.Enjoy the new life.

Because I was sick on Tuesday and didn't attend class, the first thing I did today was to make up for my research and make up my model. I spent the whole day finishing these two things. After I finished my research, I found that lines are particularly interesting to the changes of light and shadow. I made three different changes and made them into models. I spent weekends and evenings assembling and morphing the models to further complete my work

23/09/2019 Reflection

What is it & how does it woke

It's a brooch made up of different lines. During my research, I found that many light and shadow changes were made by the combination of lines. I made three models composed of different lines and finally chose two to combine them

What is it made of

Transparent plastic tubes and colored cellophane

Is it indoor/outdoor/domestic/commercial

commercial,Jewelry design

How big/small is it use another object to reference scale

As a brooch, the proportion of his body when wearing is not very large, almost two-thirds of the human chest

24/09/2019 Reflection

This morning, we had a discussion and appreciation of our final product. During the group discussion, my team members not only praised my works and said that the materials I used were very suitable and attractive for my works, but also put forward valuable Suggestions to me, saying that my works were a little less in the research stage and more research was needed so that people could understand my works more clearly. When I visited the works of other students, I found a lot of interesting products, which inspired me a lot. Some students' combination methods of works and materials and processing methods of finished products were worth learning. This was a fruitful morning. In the afternoon, we did a first-hand research on the new topic project. I think this research method is very interesting and can make me understand the topic better. In conclusion, today was a productive and interesting day

It can be used as an air freshener

In what way could it be relevant for the surface and structure project?

Smooth surface and simple three-dimensional structure

Is it ethical?

Yes,it is

Consider the social, economic, cultural and historical context?

The process of making perfume began in ancient Egypt, and was further improved by the Romans and arabs. Perfume technology first came to Europe in the 14th century. During the Renaissance, perfume was mainly used by aristocrats and wealthy people to mask the smell that came from going to the toilet.

These aristocrats and wealthy people provided financial support, which is part of the reason why the western perfume industry was created. By the 18th century, spice plants were grown in grasse, France, as raw materials for the growing perfume industry. Even today, France is the center of European perfume design and trade

Try some free word association.

Scent, simple structure, fragrance, human body, flower

Object Layout Rationale

My team members want them to be as orderly as possible, so we chose to arrange them in order of largest to smallest.

Scenario Description

From left to right are the fly swatter, an old book, a tape, a tool for cleaning glass, gloves, plastic plates, an ornament, a Fanta, a bottle of perfume, a paper cup, a small kettle, a Breath freshener, and a can of plasticine.

Prompts:

What is the context, site or landscape?

On the desktop of the classroom.

Are there any difficulties/limitations in this situation?

It's hard to go to a complete plane and the items are more layered.

How will the objects be used?

Will be used for pattern extraction of my later projects.

Is this different from their planned use?

Different from their original use, they will be part of my material testing.

Would you change the order of the objects in any way?

I will try various combinations, such as folding, crossing, and misalignment.

Considering your initial responses to the Structure and Surface brief are there any other scenarios in which you would like to arrange the objects?

I want to add more multifaceted things, because I think these items are not multifaceted, I like simple and multifaceted things

Research

Were you pleased with your research?

Yes, through the analysis of the first-hand research, I found something I was interested in doing the second-hand research, and then analyzed the extraction structure and morphology.

What did you see that was interesting? Explain WHY!

I think many of the words and designs in the dictionary are interesting. For example, in my research, when the word "surface" is combined with jewelry, there are many transformations.

Ideas Development

Which words/images did you use to develop ideas?

Fragile, perforated, modular, stretched, textured, structural.

Evaluate your painting...

I draw it according to the characteristics of each word. I think the most difficult word is textured. Because textures and textures are difficult to express through painting, I found some pictures to collage. These six words express ideas through their own characteristics.

Model Making

What did you want to explore?(why?)

A bracelet on the bark of a tree. Because I think it's an interesting idea, and there's a lot of ideas that can be turned around.

What materials did you use?(why?)

I used foam board as a model. Because for children, the material is harmless and healthy, so I thought of using foam board, and it's very environmentally friendly, green, and in good shape.

How didi the models help you develop ideas or designs?

It can let me know which ideas are available to use. And know which are better to do.

Design Development

Do your 5 design idea relate your project brief option?

Yes, my finished  is extracted from these five ideas. Develop ideas through structure and shape extraction

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your designs?

The strength of my finished product is the combination of surface and fragility. The downside is that I don't feel like I have a more convincing idea for my finished product

Action Plan

What self-directed work do you need yo over the weekend, to prepare for Monday?

Draw five ideas, do relevant research materials, prepare the materials needed to do the model.

30/09/2019 Reflection

Today we are going to make the finished product, I chose one of my idea, is made from bark and spider webs and form a design, every plant trees every one has its own unique texture and surface, I am very interested in the surface of the bark, think they have their own unique beauty, it also suit our theme "surface". Secondly, during my investigation, I found that spider webs exist in the corners of many bark. I decided to combine them to make my jewelry design

01/10/2019 Reflection

Today we drew the final product design and made the final model. I decided to make a brooch and a bracelet. Next, I will start the production of my work. In terms of the choice of materials, I choose the iron wire of wood boards of two colors. First, I choose wood boards because I think they are the materials closest to bark. Second, when I was making model chose black fine wool to render a spider's web of feeling, but the effect is very bad, wool not easy molding, very unstable, so at the time of finished goods production, I give up the use of wool to chose a very soft wire, it is convenient to create the modelling of a spider's web. I hope to see my work finished beautifully tomorrow

Project title:

Structure & surface

Project description:

in this project the aesthetics and function of surface and structural form will lead ideas from research and model making, to design development and material specification.

By the end of the project you will present a fully developed design proposal, showing how your work would look and function. There are three project options, each of which will begin in the same way; with research.

What is the discipline? (e.g. Architecture, Product Design or Wearable design)

Wearable design

What is your design Concept (idea)?

I choose to fragile and facetted keywords as I finally works. theme of surface and structure is revealed by a combination of the bark's surface texture and the fragile spider webs that often appear in the corner

What is the site/space/location for this design?

Wear it on your body

Is there a specific User/ Audience for this project?

No,  everyone can wear it

How does the User/ Audience interact with your design?

They wear my designs on their bodies

Which Materials have you used?

Wood, black wool

Why have you selected this project outcome to analyse?

Because of this project, I spent a lot of time on research and production. I love these delicate handmade things

What is successful about this outcome?

Very suitable for the theme surface and structure, appearance is very delicate, very hierarchical sense

What would you change?

Change the inlay way between two pieces of wood, become more delicate

How would you complete/ develop this project?

Research better methods from other designers and apply them to my own work

Project Brief (answer in full sentences)

Prompts (answer only those questions that are relevant)

How did you respond to the brief?

I think the project is very interesting and can be done in many interesting ways.

Which project aims did you identify and focus on?

I feel that I am more involved in this project, because I feel that the concept of my last project is more novel and innovative.

How did the class activities change/ affect your outcome?Which activities did you enjoy?

When making models in class, we will encounter bottlenecks. We can change the original idea from here and perfect it better. Then I like to do the process of modeling, because it can intuitively solve the shortcoming of this idea and understand this idea through three-dimensional structure.

Which new skills did you learn/ refine?

I learned that when developing ideas, I should draw from a variety of angles, solve problems in the perspective of little concern, or design people to meet people's needs. Output a lot of ideas can be screened, then developed, and then choose the most appropriate one to become the final idea.

Which of your strengths did you use to respond to the class activities and brief?

I'm good at thinking about the practicability and feasibility of this idea from a three-dimensional perspective. Then in the process of making the model to solve these problems. In brief, you must understand what this means, and the research you need to do, implement the daily plan and understand what the teacher asks you to do.

Relevant Research (answer in full sentences)

Prompts (answer only those questions that are relevant)

What role did Research play in your project realisation?

We should do the research all the time. When we come out an idea, then just to research the relevant items for our ideas. That’s necessary for us to research all the time from the project.

Which artists/designers influenced your outcomes and in what way?

Embroider artist James merry is the court that Icelandic goddess Bjork USES

stylist, his work inspiration mostly comes from natural ecological environment, the manual mask grain stitch that he designs is complex and changeable, colour, modelling is peculiar, having the breath that ghost spirit is blurred like gothic, brought intense visual impact to the audience

Which sources did you identify to research?

Some website, such as dezzen, yellow, act.

Was there a source that was particularly important to developing your outcome? Was it primary or secondary research?

I think is secondary research. When I research the key word structure, I refer to a lot of interesting structures, and then I extract and analyze these structures, and then integrate them into my own idea

03/10/2019 Reflection

This morning, I continued to improve my work and made it more delicate. Later, I printed out my wear drawing and final product drawing from the school printer to improve the whole process of my work. In the afternoon, we divided into groups to make comments on other students' works. I found that there were more students learning jewelry design than I had imagined. What I commented on was also a student learning jewelry design. His works enabled me to learn a lot of processing skills and ideas. I like this way very much, and I like to find my shortcomings and areas needing improvement from others' works.

14/10/2019

Today I decided to develop the surface and structure of this project. I'm going to start with the bark element, which was the pattern of the bark before, and I'm going to start with the fragility of the bark, and I'm going to look for its opposite, which is strength, and I'm going to investigate that idea todayIMG_5810.JPG.1

Today I continue to research my development project and make the final product. I looked for a lot of strong elements. I think of babies, because we don't need to think about so many things when we are babies. Our daily life is well protected, without psychological fragility and strength. I looked for a lot of things that seemed strong but could be easily destroyed. Shells, ice. My final product chose hose and paper sponge as important materials. I will continue to study this project

Contextual Review

Strength in weakness

My career path is jewelry design. In the first part of my study, I learned a lot and was exposed to many new fields. In my daily life, I like to take photos to record some moments, which brought a lot of information to my first research. I really like doing research. I do research according to my own preferences, and then extract and search for materials for secondary research, referring to design works of the same type. I can learn a lot of knowledge, such as different materials, contact methods and expression skills. And many more. Finally, I combine primary research with secondary research to develop ideas. I think this process is very interesting. From no inspiration to a lot of ideas, this is the use of research. The study of foundation also exposed me to architecture and products, but at the beginning, I preferred jewelry design. In the continuous learning, I am more determined to choose jewelry design as my career. In the year of preparatory school, I also had great confidence in myself and my work. I learned more in London and broadened my horizon. There were many exhibitions and books for me to learn, and I was always preparing for my undergraduate study.

In explore it, wear it, build it, the same combination of objects is used to extract ideas and turn them into products, buildings, and jewelry. In the lighting, a brooch that looks transparent and clear but actually has a complex structure is made. In the structure and surface, the two elements of bark and spider web are respectively made into brooch and bracelet. Finally, in the extension section, from the structure and surface development, designed a bench, expressed the hope that the human heart is soft but not indestructible concept, made a necklace. Over the last five weeks, I've made various brooches, bracelets, necklaces. I developed these ideas mainly through shape extraction and reference to other interesting designs, but each project will be different, such as combining first-hand research and second-hand research. When I start a project, I tend to have an idea and start working on it. I will discuss these problems with my classmates and exchange views with them. I love the process. I will have new ideas and I can get some good advice. The process of searching information is relatively smooth, but my English is really limited, which allows me to spend a lot of time on it. As I develop my ideas, I write or draw them in a notebook.

Development project this is my favorite project, I chose to develop the project of surface and structure. My idea is that people can look at their own inner turmoil and vulnerability and become strong. Designer Ruoyan Wang tries to take everyday seemingly minor anxieties as inspiration in her design and ultimately hopes to help the wearer regain positive feelings and the ability to experience happiness in life itself. This inspired me to explore the connection between jewelry and inner life. Even though I used the same research method, I found that every survey had a different feeling. This time I went to the studio and did a lot of research. The bark caught my eye. It looks very hard, but in fact, it falls off with a single click and is very fragile. It reminds me of hypochondriacs, people who usually look happy but are actually very vulnerable at heart. I hope to make them soft, even if not so strong, but soft is very difficult to invade. In terms of materials, I finally chose paper sponge, hose and low-hardness wire to express the feeling I want. These are soft but hard to break. This project only lasts 3 days, which greatly limits me. I think I will continue to improve the final product. In fact, when I redeveloped this project, my development ideas were contradictory. I don't know how to redevelop from a finished product. I went to talk to my tutor about my idea. Her answer to me was, "just do it." I was more comfortable and bold to do it, and later I became more and more clear about the whole idea and got something more interesting. In the second part of the study, I want to continue to use my research method and come up with some new methods.

In these projects, I enjoy the process of developing ideas and research, and the process of converting 2d ideas into 3d is very substantial. The challenge is to improve the details of the product, taking into account user experience, user base, connection methods, and so on. After finishing these projects, I have a deeper understanding of jewelry design and like this profession more. In the second part, I hope to better study the relationship between human body and everything in my project. I also hope that there are more materials for me to use and develop in addition to the materials I am using now.
